Earlier this month, Valentino’s Fall 2015 Couture collection graced the runway in Rome, giving the world a glimpse of the latest creations from the beloved fashion house. The show bore the title “Mirabilia Romae,” which translates from the Latin into “Marvels of Rome.” And marvel is just what all in attendance did.
Held in the center of the city in the Piazza Mignanelli, the open air venue set the quintessential stage to showcase Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli’s dramatic designs. The show featured a large celebrity presence, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Mika, Olivia Palmero and Tilda Swinton, as well as others who arrived from all corners of the globe.
(Not So) Little Black Dresses
Mirabilia Romae opened with a selection of magnificent black gowns, a striking shift from the patterned couture designs of seasons past. The noir pieces were accessorized with dazzling gold necklaces by Alessandro Gaggio.
The Golden Hour
The time just before sunset elicits a magical effect – the light becomes softer, more luminous. Valentino channels that end of the day glow in these shimmering metallic looks, reflecting the light of Rome’s famous golden hour.
Radiant in Red
For the last act of Mirabilia Romae, Valentino’s iconic red made its appearance on the runway, in elegant gowns that were nothing short of stunning.
